How to Channel Your Inner Power in Revolved Triangle Pose

A few months ago, before teaching my postnatal class, my students were sitting in a circle sharing their experiences about postpartum and all the surprises this phase brought. In other words, they were discussing all the things no one had told them about postpartum.

Today on Yoga|Birth|Babies I haveTina Goldstein. Tina facilitates the New Parent Support Group at PYC, and is a postpartum doula, certified breastfeeding counselor and pediatric sleep consultant. Tina provides one-on-one care and education to new parents during the 4th trimester (and beyond), supporting each family’s choices without judgement. She has also taught perinatal yoga for the last 11 years helping birthing people connect to their breath, strengthen their physical bodies, and heal from or prepare for labor.

In this episode, we speak on hormonal changes, night sweats, hair loss, breastfeeding, feeding schedules, sleep schedules, and more. My hope is that this conversation leaves you feeling more informed and empowered to seek support when needed. Here’s to lessening the shock and getting ahead of the game!

In this episode, you will learn:

  • About Tina and what led her to focusing her work on the perinatal community
  • Some of the biggest surprises and misunderstandings of postpartum
  • The common challenges people may experience when it comes to breastfeeding
  • The average feeding/sleep schedule of a newborn’s first few weeks of life
  • Why night sweats happen and when they taper off
  • Some other effects of the massive postpartum hormonal shift
  • Postpartum bleeding- what it is, how long to expect it to last, and why even those who had cesareans still bleed
  • Advice for pregnant folks in preparing the perineum for the first few days post-birth
  • The 6-week check up and the common assumption that, once cleared by your care provider, you can immediately return to your pre-pregnancy state or feel and look the same as before
  • Tina’s recommendations when it comes to social media for new parents in the postpartum period
  • One final tip or piece of advice Tina would like to offer new and expectant parents
  • Where you can find her work

About Tina:

Tina’s personal experience during her perinatal period ignited a passion for helping others during pregnancy and postpartum. As a postpartum doula, certified breastfeeding counselor and pediatric sleep consultant, Tina provides one-on-one care and education to new parents during the 4th trimester (and beyond), supporting each family’s choices without judgement. She has also taught perinatal yoga for the last 11 years helping birthing people connect to their breath, strengthen their physical bodies, and heal from or prepare for labor.

As a Perinatal Support Group Facilitator, Tina connects birthing people so that they form community, helping them to support each other and form friendships as well as normalizing the challenges of the perinatal period. In addition, she supports parents around their baby’s sleep challenges, helping parents to stay connected to their baby while gently educating on how to guide their baby (or older child) to connect their sleep cycles and sleep more consistently.  Tina’s support enriches her clients’ lives; offering tools for better physical and mental health, while facilitating confidence as parents, during this profoundly transitional time.
