Morning Yoga to Boost Self-Love

Today is all about parental dysregulation- what is is, how it shows up, and the impact it has on our children.

To have this powerful and insightful conversation with me today on Yoga | Birth | Babies, I have Dr. Amber Thornton, a licensed Clinical Psychologist and author of A Parent’s Guide to Self-Regulation: A Practical Framework for Breaking the Cycle of Dysregulation and Mastering Emotions for Parents and Children.

Listen in as we unpack common myths around dysregulation and discuss how to break the cycle. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed, anxious, or reactive as a parent, this conversation offers clarity, compassion, and strategies to help you feel more grounded and connected.

In this episode, you will learn:

  • About Dr. Amber and what led her to focus on self-regulation and parent-child emotional dynamics
  • What self-regulation is in the context of parenting
  • Some of the most common signs that a parent is dysregulated, and may not even realize it
  • How a parent’s ability to self-regulate impacts their child’s emotional development
  • Some common myths about dysregulation
  • What breaking the cycle of dysregulation looks like in real-life parenting moments
  • The first steps, for a parent, to recognize and shift emotional patterns from childhood
  • The PCR method and how it can help parents regulate
  • How to actually break the cycle of dysregulation in one’s family
  • How a parent can begin to build a daily or weekly self-regulation practice, even in the chaos of early parenting
  • One final tip or piece of advice Dr. Amber would like to offer new and expectant parents
  • Where you can find her book and her work
