At first glance, the title might make you think parenting in the digital age sounds overwhelming. But what if technology could actually support today’s parents instead of adding stress?

In this episode of Yoga | Birth | Babies, I’m joined by Sarah Trott. Sarah is the creator and host of The Fourth Trimester Podcast and founder of HelloGaia Parenting Copilot, an evidence-based tool that gives families quick, reliable answers from pregnancy through early parenthood. Sarah is a tremendous resource in the postpartum world. As she talks about the work she does now, she also weaves in moments from her own postpartum experience- the very journey that inspired her mission today. Enjoy this thoughtful and informative conversation.

In this episode you will learn about:

  • About Sarah and what led her to an interest in supporting folks in the 4th trimester
  • The story behind starting the Fourth Trimester Podcast and how your her postpartum experience inspired it
  • What role technology plays in filling gaps in postpartum care today
  • How apps, podcasts, or online platforms can complement- not replace- the vital in-person, traditional support systems like doulas, friends, and family
  • Particular types of tech tools (e.g., mental health apps, online peer groups, telehealth, podcasts) that have the most potential impact for new parents
  • How new parents can use technology in ways that enhance, rather than replace, personal support
  • The best practices Sarah suggests for parents trying to strike that balance between leaning on tech and fostering in-person, community-based support
  • Reliable, evidence-based resources for new parents
  • One final tip or piece of advice Sarah would like to offer new and expectant parents
  • Where you can find her work

About Sarah:

Sarah Trott is creator and host of the Fourth Trimester Podcast. She created the show after realizing that many of the questions she had about her own experience as a new parent were the same questions her postpartum doula was asking some thirty years prior. She is passionate about helping other parents find the resources and confidence they need on their parenting journey.

She is also the founder of HelloGaia Parenting Copilot, a tool providing evidence-based support for families, offering fast, reliable answers from pregnancy to parenting, anytime. HelloGaia draws upon trusted sources such as the American Academy of Pediatrics, March of Dimes, the US Centers for Disease Controls and Prevention, plus credentialed and experienced Perinatal professionals.

Sarah also works in tech as a startup advisor, and she loves spending time with her husband and three daughters in the San Francisco Bay Area.
