Oris, the 120-year-old independent Swiss watchmaker, has just released a newly updated dive watch to mark the 60th anniversary of their Divers watch series—the new Divers Date. It replaces the longstanding Divers Sixty-Five and comes with some serious upgrades over its predecessors.
The new diver is inspired by Oris’ original 1965 dive watch, and the new dial colors—classic black, deep ocean blue, and shimmery beige—exude ’60s cool. But it’s the hardware upgrades that make this a serious contender for anyone looking at an Omega Seamaster or a Tudor Black Bay and could even turn the head of someone saving up for a Rolex Submariner.

The Divers Date upgrades include an increase in overall weight for a greater presence on the wrist. This also means a sturdier bracelet and clasp, and a beefier uni-directional bezel with more grip and a new fade-proof ceramic bezel insert. A new exhibition caseback lets you admire the automatic in-house movement (with a 41-hour power reserve), and the sturdy case itself, a versatile 39mm wide, is water resistant to a staggering 200 meters (600 feet)—doubling the resistance of the prior model.
Under the vintage-inspired domed sapphire crystal, the hour markers now have slightly beveled edges, which Oris says makes them more legible. The hands and the applied hour markers are all lumed for viewing in the dark or at depth, and there is a date window at 6 o’clock.

The Divers Date comes on an upgraded steel bracelet with quick-release pins, allowing you to easily swap over to the rubber strap that is also included with the watch—between the rubber and the steel, you should be covered on bands. After all, leather doesn’t belong on a dive watch.
While the $2,700 price tag is steep relative to Seiko or Timex, for a Swiss-made dive watch with an in-house automatic movement that could hold its own next to Omega, Tudor, and others within the category, the sub $3k price is actually quite affordable.
