Algorithms be darned. Google recently gave its users some autonomy over their search results with its “Preferred Sources” tool. And if you’re a yoga junkie like us, you can now put Yoga Journal stories and practices at the top of your search list. Here’s how.
Google’s new-to-us feature allows you to customize your top news sources so that publications that are subject experts in, say, yoga show up first in your “Top stories” or “News” searches. This also means you’ll have a dedicated “From your sources” section featuring outlets you know and trust.
We already did the work for you. Click this link to add Yoga Journal to your preferred sources.
We’ve also made it easier than ever to add us as a preferred source through the Yoga Journal website and that of our parent company, Outside, on both the web and mobile versions. All you need to do is click the “Add Yoga Journal as a preferred source on Google” button in any story:

Setting Yoga Journal or Outside as a preferred source gives you some sway over your algorithm, meaning the sites you select—wink, wink—will show more prominently within your search results, which means you’ll have greater access to articles on how to find your calm, move on your mat (even when you have 10 minutes or less), and plan your next idyllic yoga getaway.
“With the launch of Preferred Sources in the U.S. and India, you can select your favorite sources and stay up to date on the latest content from the sites you follow and subscribe to—whether that’s your favorite sports blog or a local news outlet,” writes Google on its blog.
